Here are a few of the yearly local events that take place in Cozumel:

Carnaval Cozumel celebrates carnival much like we do in the USA their dates usually run the same as our Mardi Gras celebration here in Louisiana. Locals enjoy many celebrations 2 to 3 weeks before the carnival itself with the introduction of Carnival royalty and parties in the town square. The parades start on the Saturday, Sunday and Tuesday, directly before Ash Wednesday. Come enjoy beautiful floats, exotic dancers and tons of Mexican Fun in Cozumel this Carnival season.  Hint: Bring some Beads to share!!

El Cedral Festival usually held in Cozumel the last of April to 1st week of May. This wonderful local event is rumored to be over 160 years old; it celebrates the beginning of the island and is a week-long event.  The festival is held at the old village of El Cedral in the islands southern area. Many events are free and all are invited to enjoy the pageantry of days past with unequaled local foods, rodeos, bullfights, music, dancing, horse racing, carnival rides, local venders and much more. So slip into some shorts, sunscreen, flip-flops and come enjoy ice cold Mexican beer at this local island celebration.

Iron Man – Cozumel host the Iron Man International Triathlons with athletes from all over the world  swimming, cycling  and running  their way round Cozumel in hopes of winning the covenanted  title of IRON MAN.  Events include the “Iron Man 70.3”, “Half Iron Man”, and “Iron Man Cozumel”. Hundreds of Athletes converge on the island and streets are closed for this prestigious event.  “Iron Man 70.3” usually occurs in September while the larger Iron Man event occurs in Nov/Dec. Come enjoy and be a part of the excitement in Cozumel.

Outside of Carnival, El Cedral Festival and iron man Cozumel offers year round attractions. From their numerous beaches, snorkeling, scuba diving and unlimited water adventures to their land bases excursions such as jungle adventures, zip lines, natural parks, museums, ruins and golf course.  Cozumel offers adventures for every age and physical ability. Our home is located just 2 full blocks from the ocean on 10th Avenida.  The grocery is a quick 5 minute walk and shopping is 3 blocks away on the waterfront. Many local bars and eateries are a quick 10 minute walk from the house.  If you want a dolphin adventure it is a quick 5 minute walk from the house.

Cozumel is the largest island in Mexico and is located in the Caribbean off the coast of the Yucatan peninsula commonly referred to as the “Mexican Riviera”  The island has direct flights into the Cozumel airport or by a quick ferry ride from Playa Del Carmen via Cancun.  The island is very safe and there is a constant military presence for the tourist protection.   Tourism is the islands #1 source of income so safety is of the utmost importance.
